Tribute to Holocaust’s victims and survivors of the Sephardic communities

A new anniversary of the deportation of the Jewish communities of Kos, Thessaloniki and Rhodes was commemorated in the tribute to the Shoah’s victims and survivors of the Sephardic communities that took place in the Holocaust Museum of Buenos Aires and was attended by survivors and diplomatic, community and government authorities.

The event was organized by the Buenos Aires Holocaust Museum, the Argentine Israeli Association’s Delegation, the Sefarad Cultural Center and the Chalom Community Center.

It was hosted by the director of the Museum, Jonathan Karszenbaum, and the president of the Sefarad Cultural Center, Marcelo Benveniste. The event began with a tribute from the Buenos Aires Holocaust Museum and the Chalom Community Center to Pedro Malewicz Z’L, who was a member of both institutions, with some words from the honorary president of the Gustavo Sakkal Museum.

The Israel’s Ambassador to Argentina Eyal Sela, the ambassador to the Intentional Alliance in Remembrance of the Holocaust Fabiana Loguzzo, the treasurer of the Gabriel Cohen Museum, the general secretary of Chalom Fabián Yohai, the vice president of the DAIA Sergio Pikholtz, and the Undersecretary of Human Rights and Cultural Pluralism of the City of Buenos Aires Pamela Malewicz participated as speakers at the event..

Members of the institutions that supported the event were present: ACILBA, ACICSA, CIDICSef, Bene Mizrah, Club Social Israelita Sefaradí, Círculo Social Hebreo Argentino, FeSeRa, Menora, Or Mizrah and Fundación Tzedaká.

In addition, the survivors Hélène Gutkowski and Mónica Dawidowicz, the Polish Ambassador to Argentina Aleksandra Piatkowska, the Undersecretary for Foreign Policy of the Argentine Republic Claudio Javier Rozencwaig, the honorary president of the Claudio Avruj Museum, Vice President Guillermo Yanco, federal prosecutor Alberto Gentili, the deputy consul of Spain Gustavo Alonso Martínez, the commissioner of the Federal Police Marcelo El Haibe, the director of the Simón Wiesenthal Center for Latin America Ariel Gelblung, Paulo Vitaver of the IWO Foundation, the head of the Department for Combating Anti-Semitism of the World Zionist Organization Raheli Baratz, Susana Chalom from B’nai B’rith Argentina, Cristina Gómez Giusto from the Ministry of Education, participated among others.

During the tribute, Chief Rabbi Isaac Sacca recited the Kaddish and addressed the public with an allusive message in memory of the victims.

Among his words, he highlighted “We, who went through this tragedy, should not evoke to victimize ourselves but to be sure of not making anyone suffer and to prevent others from attacking our people or any other again.”
