Today, Wednesday, December 1st at 4:30 p.m. in Argentina and 8:30 p.m. in Spain, Chief Rabbi Isaac Sacca will speak at a new virtual meeting, for the closing of the annual cycle of “Spiritual Magazine.” In this space, shared by Menora and the Jewish Community of Madrid, we study about current issues, which invite us to reflect on the life and the behaviour of human beings.

The Spiritual Magazine is a series of conferences that started during the pandemic, from Argentina and Spain to the whole world.

Coty Aserin, Rabbi Moshe Bendahan’s wife, the main Rabbi of Madrid, shares a space for reflection for the Jewish community of Madrid and Argentina every Wednesday.

On this occasion, the Chief Rabbi will be the special guest, who will speak about the Hanukkah holiday and current teachings for our lives.

From Sunday, November 28th at night until December 6th, 2021 we celebrate Hanukkah, the party of lights. These days, we remember the heroic deed of the Maccabees, in their fight against the Hellenist Seleucid army.

The Seleucids tried to impose their culture on the Jews. They couldn’t understand that someone passionately decided to defend a different culture. For them, the superiority of the Greek mentality was evident.

However, the Jews, led by the Maccabees, resisted these attempts to impose ideas by force and they defended freedom of conscience and worship.

The Hasmonean rebellion was not merely military, but a revolt in favor of human freedom. For this reason, its echo is still sounding: it is a call to all humanity to consider the value of human dignity and respect for differences.
