On November 24th, Chief Rabbi Isaac Sacca was at the presentation of the new book by Dr. Ricardo Luis Lorenzetti, “The new enemy, the environmental collapse: how to avoid it.”

Representatives from the business world, social and cultural leaders, leaders of NGOs dedicated to preserving the environment and also from different religions were present at the event.

Dr. Lorenzetti, Minister of the Supreme Court of Argentina, explained that environmental collapse is a challenge that summons the entire society, because its effects affect everyone equally, regardless of age, gender, socioeconomic level or religious or cultural identity. He highlighted the problems of access to drinking water, climate change and imbalances in ecosystems. He also stressed that the social and political system is at stake.

Asked about his impressions of these challenges, Chief Rabbi Isaac Sacca stated that promoting the care for the environment is a way of serving God and the neighbor. “The Hebrew Bible is clear: the human being was placed on this planet to care for it and protect its environment,” he emphatically affirmed.

He also pointed out that it is an opportunity to rethink our way of life. «Consumerism and the lack of limits in the pursuit of material pleasure lead to a lack of control in the use of resources. It is our respectability as humanity to debate in a public and direct way and to generate changes in our lives to care for and respect God’s creation, “concluded the Chief Rabbi.
