Visit to the Jewish Community of Madrid

The Jewish Community of Madrid, which is in full growth and developing an excellent community and educational task, received Rabbi Isaac Sacca affectionately.

 

Rabbi Sacca keeps a close relationship with the community of Madrid and he has visited it in different occasions. In this last visit he had several meetings about educational proyects, among them the trips of Menora Sefarad , which Menora has been generating over the last few years for young University students aiming to discover and exalt the Hebrew roots of Spain

One of the main meetings was with the principal Rabbi of Madrid, Rabbi Moshe Bendahan, who stands out for his important educational and community work together with his wife Coty Aserin. Mostly thanks to them,  the community has had a religious revival. Lots of people and the board of directors headed by Mr David Hatchwell Altaras are partners in this laudable task.

 

Rabbi Isaac Sacca was invited to give some words in the reminder act held in the central synagogue due to the month of death of Mr Pierre Lasry, one of the most featured pillars of the Community of Madrid.

 

Another pillar of the spiritual revival of the Community of Madrid is Rabbi Avraham Nahon , who directs the Colel Torat Moshe  and welcomed Rabbi Sacca in the Torah academy together with all his students.

 

A great part of the visit of Rabbi Sacca was focused on the cultural and religious legacy of the Sephardic communities that developed in Spain before 1492. Within this frame he had meetings with the president of the Foundation Juan de Borbon, Mr Sadi Cohen, who is a community leader of the Sephardic community, and Mr David Hatchwell Altarás about the influence of the worldwide Sephardic culture.

 

He was also invited to the Sepharad Center, where he met the director, Mr  Miguel de Luca and the coordinator Esther Bendahan. The Sepharad Center is a ministerial body of the government of Spain ,which promotes the Sephardic and Jewish culture of Spain and reinforces fraternal bonds within the Spanish society.

 

Within the agenda of Menora Sepharad trips,  Rabbi Sacca met the representatives of Menora in Spain, who colaborate with the programs and strategic needs. Together with Mr Rony Cabuli and Mr Claudio Giesen,  the rabbi shared ideas of planning for the youngsters who travel every year to rediscover the Hebrew roots of Sepharad.

 

In Gerona the rabbi visited the History Museum of Jews and was received by its director  Assumpció Hosta. manager of the Patronat  Call of Girona . She visited the City Hall with them. The directives of the museum organized a visit to Besalu, where you can find the most ancient mikvah of Europe. Rabbi Sacca went there together with an important commitee of the community.
