Presentation of the documentary film “In search of Sepharad”
The documentary film “In search of Sepharad” directed by the young ladies Carina Gurovitz and Paula Castiglioni was presented at the Embassy of Spain on Monday afternoon. It was supported by the Sephardic Israelite Association of Buenos Aires (ACISBA) and the Delegation of Argentine Israelite Associations (DAIA).
Rabbi Isaac Sacca, as the Sephardic Chief Rabbi, took part in the documentary film and supervised its content. He was also present at the premiere.
David Izquierdo Ortiz de Zarate, counsellor of the Embassy of Spain, officiated as the chairman. The first person to talk was the Spanish Ambassador Javier Sandomingo Núñez . He welcomed the guests and remarked that “it is a special day” because the “Sephardic community are compatriots of our ancestors”, but he assured that lots of times people who ruled Spain in different moments, didn’t have enough “wisdom”, emphasizing the expulsion from Spain Jewish people suffered.
The President of DAIA, Ariel Cohen Sabban stressed the importance of this documentary film framed in the possibility of learning “to be able to know even better all the tour of the Sephardies”and he also congratulated the directors of the film.
Sephardic Chief Rabbi Isaac Sacca said:” Going into the Embassy of Spain in an experience very hard to describe. We are stepping on Sephardic soil. Coming into the Embassy is coming into OUR home. Returning to our origins.”
He stood out that the Spanish people understood that the world needed to reconcile. After that, the guests enjoyed the film ” In search of Sepharad”, which aims to expone the identity of those Spanish-Jewish descendants who came to Argentina and kept their culture and costums and transmitted them to their children and grandchildren, in spite of being away from home, Spain.
