DAIA remembered the night of the Broken Glass.

The Delegation of Israelite Associations Argentina (DAIA) organized, on Sunday afternoon at Alemania Square, together with the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, the Undersecretary of Human Rights and Cultural Pluralism of CABA and the Ministery of Culture of the Nation, a concert with the Student Orchestra of Buenos Aires directed by  Master Guillermo Zalcman to commemorate the  progrom of the Kristallnacht, carried away by the Nazis in  the  whole territory of the Third Reich on the night of November 9th 1938.

Among the assistants there was the national deputy Waldo Wolff, Ivan Petrella; secretary of Federal Integration and International Cooperation of the Ministery of Culture of the Nation; and Alexis Gatti, from PAMI, together with important leaders of the Jewish community of Argentina.

The President of DAIA, Ariel Cohen Sabban, expressed that when the progrom of the Kristallnacht  ocurred, nobody gave importance to it, because they said “these are things that exist today and tomorrow no one remembers”. However, it was the starting point of the slaughter of six million Jewish people, among them a million and a half children and 52 million people in total during the Second World War.

“This country knew how to embrace everyone, our grandparents; the ones who came from Europe, the ones who came from  the Middle East, who have grown up here proudly and have developed in this beautiful country. But I also want to say that, unfortunately, it seems to be fashionable again to have Anti-Semitic expressions, xenofobic expressions, discriminatory expressions. From DAIA, what we are not going to do, is to permit that in our country, The Argentine Republic, discriminatory expressions take place. Whoever says them, DAIA will be there. We will not allow any collective to be discriminated; we will not allow any member of this society to be marked, discriminated or labeled for having a different religion” Cohen Sabban expressed.

He also pointed out that “In Argentina today, in the Argentina in which all of us decided to live, there is no place for discriminatory expressions. We are going to be present judicially, and in every place that is necessary, from  Capital Federal to the most inhospitable place of the country ”.

Finally, the President of DAIA thanked the assistants to join  this event, “which is the best response to any discriminatory attitude, to any xenofobic attitude and to any Anti-Semitic attitude”

When the concert finished, Chief Rabbi Isaac Sacca, was invited to give a message and he affirmed: “This is an act of union, of remembrance, which promotes love and peace among people. That is why it is worthy to bless who make this event possible: DAIA and its President Ariel Cohen Sabban; the government of the City of Buenos Aires, this excellent orchestra of youngsters, directed by Master Zalcman. Music can be an element which transforms our hearts to love and respect each other and to counteract barbarism during the Nazi time. We wish we would never again have to listen to any persecution, any discrimination against any people, and that is the great merit of DAIA, headed by Ariel Cohen Sabban. G’d bless the participants, may the adults have good health, a long life and happiness”
