Menora, World Organization for the Youth, led by Rabbi Isaac Sacca, coordinated a blood donation campaign for the second time.
On Wednesday May 26th, with the country and the whole world involved in a sanitary crisis due to the Covid-19, the institution organized a second campaign of blood donation, under the auspicies of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires.
Menora is dedicated to provide education and contention to the youth, aiming to form good people who give themselves to society through solidarity actions in search of a fairer and more noble world. In that way, they create solidarity programs in which thousands of youngsters participate.
In 2019 they organized the first campaign together with the Fernandez Hospital, being aware that just the 1,15% of the population usually donates blood, when 9 out of 10 people or people around them will need a transfusion.
This year the pandemic has caused an 80%decrease in blood donation, so it was very important to Menora to return to the campaign, which, due to the quarantine, had to adapt its modality.
The work was done together with the Sagrado Corazón Sanatorium, which set up in one of the centers of Menora six extraction stretchers and all the necessary things for the collection of blood from the volunteers for a whole day.
Both the Sagrado Corazón Sanatorium and Menora strictly complied with all hygiene and prevention regulations to carry out this task.
The order of admission was done through a pre-registration form, which allowed to assign shifts and carry out the work in an orderly way.
The center, which until before the quaratine received hundreds of youngsters in educational and social activities, was reinvented for one day. With six stretchers, separated every two meters as indicated by the protocol, and all the necessary measures for a campaign under the health standards of blood collection and transfer, added to the particular guidelines of the quarantine by COVID-19, the Organization received over 100 youngsters, who donated blood hoping to spread health and save lives in this unthinkable reality we have to live in.
Several officials of the City of Buenos Aires were also present, among them Gustavo Gesualdo, Secretary of Development; Pamela Malewicz, Subsecretary of Human Rights and Cultural Pluralism; who accompanied the initiative and congratulate Menora for the labour they make with young people and society in general.
