The Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, David Yosef, Visits Argentina

From November 6 to 12, 2025, the Sephardic Chief Rabbi of the State of Israel, David Yosef, will carry out an official visit to Argentina, with a schedule that includes meetings with Jewish communities across the country, as well as with rabbinical leaders, educational institutions, and representatives of the national government.

The visit —organized by Menora, the World Jewish Organization for Youth, under the leadership of the Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Buenos Aires, Isaac Sacca— marks an important event for both the Argentine Jewish community and interfaith dialogue in the country.

This visit takes place in the context of the recent conclusion of the war triggered by the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and represents the first time since then that a world-renowned spiritual leader of such rank from global Judaism visits Argentina.

During his stay, Rabbi David Yosef will meet with community leaders, educational institutions, and national authorities with the aim of strengthening the spiritual, social, and cultural bonds between Israel and Jewish communities throughout the diaspora. His agenda also includes opportunities for interreligious cooperation and the promotion of shared universal values such as peace, understanding, and solidarity.

Born in Jerusalem, Rabbi David Yosef visited Argentina more than thirty times before assuming his current position. He maintains a deep bond with the local community and a genuine appreciation for Argentine culture, traditions, and warmth. Known for both his erudition and pedagogical clarity, he stands out for bringing the timeless teachings of the Torah closer to all people through accessible and contemporary language. He serves as President of the Iehave Daat Academy of Jewish Religious Studies and is the author of several foundational works on Jewish law, including the acclaimed Halajá Berurá series.

The Rabbi is the son of the late Rabbi Ovadia Yosef Z”L, who served as the Sephardic Chief Rabbi of the State of Israel from 1973 to 1983 and was one of the most influential figures in contemporary traditional Judaism. Rabbi Ovadia Yosef visited Argentina several times —in 1975, 1981, and 1993— consolidating a historic relationship between the Sephardic rabbinical leadership of Israel and the Argentine Jewish community.

Rabbi David Yosef’s commitment to peace and global understanding has been reflected in various international forums, including the Congress of Traditional World Religions held in Kazakhstan in September 2023, which brought together religious leaders from more than sixty countries.

During his most recent visit to Argentina two years ago, Rabbi David Yosef delivered lectures and training sessions open to the public and visited numerous communities —including Yesod Hadat, Sucath David, Yeshurún, Shaare Sión, Agudat Dodim, Peer Hadat, and Shuba Israel— as well as several leading yeshivot and kollelim in Buenos Aires.

The presence of the Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel in Argentina renews the spirit of encounter, cooperation, and transmission of values that define Judaism and its enduring message of universal hope.
