On the evening of Saturday, October 18, the Menora | Chella & Moise Safra Center for Youth hosted a distinguished conference by writer and international analyst Pilar Rahola, who addressed the new international landscape following the recent release of hostages after the October 7, 2023, massacre. The talk was moderated by Brian Frojmowicz, a Menora student.
The event drew a prominent audience of young people, community leaders, and representatives from academia and politics, who closely followed Rahola’s reflections on current challenges in human rights, freedom, and international coexistence.Among those in attendance were Secretary of Worship and Civilization Nahuel Sotelo; Attorney General of the Nation Dr. Eduardo Casal; Attorney General of the Province of Buenos Aires Dr. Julio Marcelo Conte-Grand; Judge Franco Fiumara; President of the National Tax Court Miguel Licht; businessman Mario Montoto; and President of the “Ayudar a Nuestra Argentina” Foundation Ariel Cohen Sabban.
Rahola expressed profound joy over the return of the twenty hostages held by terrorists—an emotion shared by all present. She affirmed that, despite the immense challenges faced by the State of Israel and the Jewish people over the past two years, the prospects for peace emerging from recent developments, combined with Israel’s growing geopolitical strength, point to a promising future for the region.
During her address, Rahola reflected on the supreme value of life and her admiration for the Jewish people:“The most important value for a human being is not peace—it is life, the higher life. The Jewish people know this very well. Chai (life). And sometimes, for the sake of life, peace must be broken. Peace is the second value, perhaps even the third, because in between comes love.
I know of no people who value life more than the Jewish people, or who fight harder to preserve it than the Jewish people.”
The conference provided a meaningful space for reflection and dialogue at a critical moment for the international community and reaffirmed Menora’s commitment to education, memory, and the promotion of universal human values.
