Visit of the new ambassador of Turkey

Chief Rabbi Isaac Sacca together with the president of the Sephardic Community, Eng. Marcos Daniel Mayo, welcomed the new Ambassador of Turkey to Argentina, Ömür Budak, at the Chief Rabbinate of the Sephardic Community in Buenos Aires.

In this meeting, the Chief Rabbi expressed his solidarity with the Turkish people as a result of the earthquake that recently shook Turkey and offered his support and help to the victims. In turn, they spoke about cultural projects between both communities.

The Rabbi highlighted the eternal gratitude of the Sephardic community to the Turkish community, because they received the Jews expelled during the Inquisition. He also stated their union through cultural and historical ties of brotherhood.

The Rabbi told the Ambassador that the origin of his surname, Antebi Sacca, refers to the city of Antab in Turkey where his ancestors lived before being transferred to Aleppo and then to Buenos Aires. Antab is precisely one of the cities where the last earthquake had a serious impact.

The Ambassador presented the community with a book published in Turkey on the ancient Jewish Turkish clothing and the Chief Rabbi presented them with a replica of an artistic work of the Psalms of King David that invokes God for his protection and blessing, made by 19th century Turkish Sephardic artists.
