On Wednesday April 21st, Chief Rabbi Isaac Sacca spoke at a new virtual meeting of “Spiritual Magazine” between Menora and the Jewish community of Madrid. Participants from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Israel and Argentina were also present.
The talk focused on the two great founders of the people of Israel: Avraham and Moshe.
The patriarch Avraham Avinu, “our father”, founded the monotheistic culture, being the father of many nations, including Israel.
The second founder of the Jewish people was Moshe Rabbenu, Moses the Master. He was the one who led the Jews out of Egypt and gave them the Torah, the Law, a code of justice.
Avraham created the people, created the culture of man’s bond with G’d. He revealed and imparted good values of G’d. The pact with Avraham was ideological.
Moses sealed the Law covenant. He created the legal system. “A society cannot live just with ideology . It has to have a concrete legal application with that ideology ”- said Rabbi Isaac. He also explained that thanks to that we exist as a people; if not, the ideology would have been diluted. The law, the Torah, comes to adjust and consolidate the moral values that man has and were spread by Avraham. Although man was created with morals and ethics, he was also created with the animal instinct, the weakness that distances him from morality.
Avraham and Moshe had the same characteristics of conduct: the quality of humility and wisdom. They were sent by G’d to give us tools to be better people. Avraham revealed ethics and morals to us, and Moshe the Law to be able to uphold those values.
“In both leaders we see the natural system of the progress of man and society represented. Avraham and Moshe were the founders of the two pillars of a harmonious and peaceful society, applicable to the whole society ”- concluded the Chief Rabbi.“
